when did we lose ourselves?
just a quote from the recent chapter of naruto, but that's besides the point. sometimes, this complicated world we live in can really be a pain. i remember doing a gp essay titled "is sports always linked to money?" (or something along those lines since i never had the knack for remembering stuff (or i never bothered to)). every single day i pick up the newspaper and somewhere in the sports section, there would be an article that would make a perfect example to support my stand.
unfortunately, soccer is no longer just about soccer, at the professional level that is.
chelsea and man city's transfer spree over the past few seasons have done nothing but turn me off, seriously. instead of "challenging the big four with the team i have", it had become "challenging the big four with the money i have". and seriously, if there is any pride i can see in that, it's the pride in the money they have, and that is the kind of so called 'pride' that can be flushed down the toilet bowl into the sewage - unwanted and unnecessary.
and those money making scums who knows nothing about soccer, yet wants to use it as avenue for their (huge enough already) income by owning a club should seriously set themselves on fire before the fans do it for them. apologise for the tone but time and again, the owner of the club i have supported for more than have my lifetime turns out to be piece of trash who had done nothing but bring the club down from top flight to the not so pleasing state they're in today. and renaming their home stadium which has been there since 1892, which is so full of history, just for the sake of generating extra income and sponsorship. there're some things which can't be taken away, and there're some people who just doesn't understand what the word "identity" really" means. he really deserves a pat on the back, with a sledgehammer that is.
fortunately, money hasn't been a bane for professional tennis (yet). though i won't say it is completely clean either, looking at andre agassi's recent shocking confession to the world.
why can't it be simply love for the game itself? do you remember how it feels like, when you first held the racquet in your hand? when you scored your first goal in a match?
do you still remember how you would play for hours till the sun goes down? how you play during your break times in school and forget about eating?
do you remember how you fell in love with the game?
when did we lose ourselves?
