i was teaching my sec1s the proper techniques on how to read from a measuring cylinder (u know... parallax error and all that...) when this happened:
me: remember ar, u all must always read from the bottom of the
meniscus-
student: huh? the bottom of the
miniskirt?
sec1s nowadays ar...

it's feels kinda wierd how your teachers 3 years ago are now your colleagues. today i was talking to mr keith teo in the staffroom and it kinda started like this:
me:
eh mr teo, ask you ar...mr. teo:
call me keith la.me:
eh... ok. mr teo, ask u ar... (proceeds on to ask what i wanted to ask)
lol. anw i was asking him abt his spare tennis racket which i used the other day. mine broke. yes it BROKE! didn't know how it happened but it did. damn it la. now i have to get a new racket to replace it (abt time anw) but ya thanks to that the money in my spending account has fallen below the minimum cash reserve ratio indicated by the MAS (Mind Aaron's Spendings).
and no i'm not rich cos all the salary i'm currently earning has been driven off to the instructors at bukit batok driving centre. one day's salary is amost equal to (more than) the cost of one prac lesson.
so ya my racket is not the only thing that's broke now...

saw a couple of familiar faces at the driving school today, ppl like ting yang whom i havent heard from since dont know when. he's doing well la, still the same old person with the same blur look and with the same blue bag slung across his shoulders.
then there's qing xiang (aka the clerk who bath 7 times a day and sleep until got headache) who've just finished ns. haha, he and his classic handshake greeting never changes. doesn't look like he just finished ns though.
anw o lvl results will be released this thursday, which only mean that a lvl results will be out pretty soon too.
good luck to those out there who're taking your results this thursday =)

sushi outing ytd with cheryl, annarine and wenhao was nothing short of enjoyable, especially at such a time when i need to satisfy my craving for sushi. but what was more satisfying than the sashimi and soft shell crabs was their company. the nonsensical chatter, the lame jokes, the not-so-nice singing and the talk about the past, the present and the uncertain future. (to any of you who reads this: we must go out more often. haha)
wonder how some of the guys are doing over at tekong right now...
anw i just checked out the lyrics of jay chou's
蒲公英的約定 (a dandelion's promise). ya i can never decipher what on earth he is mumbling about (except certain more obvious parts)(but for this song it wasnt that bad, haha) but once i understand it's a different thing. i've always liked the lyrics
方文山 writes. this one kinda takes me back to the past, how we were young and naive back when we were still playing with lego. and how we thought that every story will have a happily ever after.

work!
been full of ups and downs. the thing about being a relief teacher is that you don't really get any training and you have to start teaching on day 1. and you'll only be given the topic to teach, the lessons you'll have to plan yourself. (you'll probably be wondering why am i able to handle it but yea i somehow managed to).
another point to note about relief teaching is that you'll never know when you might have "extra" classes popping out. every day as i step into the staff room, i would tend to be careful not to bump into the admin manager. because if i do that would mean extra work because certain teachers reported sick. somehow they think that relief teachers are super versatile and can teach anything. read on.
a classic example would be today. i was suppose to have only 3 timetable lessons but i almost ended up have 6 classes in the end. to make matters worse, one of the lesson i was asked to take over was a lit lesson! i tried to rescue myself by desperately trying to tell the AM that my lit sucks to the core (like for example, telling him my o lvl lit score) by somehow it didn't work. but fortunately i managed to find another relief teacher (who's lit is probably 1000 times better than mine) to take over for me. but 5 lessons per day is still very draining. note that energy consumed in 1 lesson for a teacher = 2-3 lessons for a student
so for those who're reading this now and are still studying, please give your teacher less trouble. haha, kinda ironic since i'm partly guilty for that too since i belonged to a class that wrecked havoc back in rv.
on the flipside, working in rv isn't that bad for me because:
1) the canteen food is dirt cheap
2) my table is in a secluded corner in the staff room (private space)
3) near my mum's workplace, meaning free ride to and fro so no need to pay adult fare
4) i get to see my juniors often (though i only know sec4s and some sec3s)
AND LAST BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY!
5) the staffroom has quite a number of tennis pros!

koped this from wen hao's blog.
it's utter crap but it's somehow humorous. haha.

was watching this japanese school's band performance in rv today. oh man, just when i thought watching a syf gold with honours band's performance was good enough, along came the japanese and they totally blew us away, not with the trumpets but with their excellent performance. seriously.
and i could really tell each and every one of their band members played not just for the sake of playing the instrument, but they really put their heart and soul into it (man i sound like an nj canoeist)
anw i sms-ed ohh today to tell her i'm taking over her class. oh, to all 4K'05 peeps who still don't know, ohh has given birth to a baby girl (i havent ask the name yet) and she's on maternity leave now so i happen to be taking over her. anw her reply to my msg was smth like "glad to know that you're taking over my classes". lol this shows she somehow have some expectations if me la, being her ex-student. to be honest i still havent grasp all this teaching thing yet. somehow being a teacher is much tougher than i had expected it to be. but i also cannot let ohh down also, so must do a good job la. stressed man... haha
at the end of the day, i'll try to do a good job no matter what cos i'm sick of my own incompetence already.and i seriously need to dig some time out to run before i step into sembawang camp

sian... by the end of this week most of my (guy) friends would be in tekong already. well, i guess i'm gonna be kinda lonely... it would be a lie if i say i won't miss them. haha. but oh well. what can i do?
it's quite a surprise how ms serene teo remembers me (and my class!) despite only teaching my class for half a year and despite me being quite low profile in class. haha, totally different from me. i get students saying hi to me at the canteen and all i do is say hi back while desperately trying to recall who and wat class they belong to (without succeeding). hahaha.
on a sidenote, nobody realised i was wearing nj pants for work today until i told them. HAHAHAHA!

been going back to nj quite a lot these past few days. besides looking out for cute girls (which i'm sad to say, that there're hardly any), purpose of going back is to play tennis, train with the track team (to attempt to resurrect my fitness) and of course to enjoy the newly build synthetic field. like what sam said, the field is "too flat to resist". lol so true. it feels damn good to be running on that field and kicking the ball around, although i must admit we were crazy to attempt playing the whole field when it was only a 5 on 5 game. haha.
friday was cca carnival. played soccer in the morning, then tennis after that, before and during the cca carnival. not too bad i suppose, despite the intermittent rain that sort of dampened the mood a little. other than that everything was alright. tennis with the usual gang ended up becoming me helping to feed balls to the j1s that came to try out for a while -.-
track booth did well. there was a surprising number of people that signed up, or at least showed interest in track. haha that's a pretty good sign. i hope they can get enough guys sprinters for next year's 4x100m team.
today was outing with thomas, yujia, sharon and leon (aka 2-weeks-driver) leon drove us around and we went settlers at clarke quay for games and food. that experience today caused us to have a changed impression of bunnies and carrots (hahaha). other than that the other games were alright. the last word for taboo was damn sick. haha, my fault.
tmr have to go and get some clothes for my work. oh btw i'm starting work on tuesday. chemistry relief teaching in rv. call me mr. ng, haha. but i think i have to study chem again.
oh FFVII Crisis Core english version is gonna be out soon!!!! 25th march!!! though i already in sembawang camp but that's gonna be the first thing i get when i come out.
FINAL FANTASY!!!

i've read a recent newspaper article on the interview with the young national gymnasts not long ago. the article talked about the sweat and tears behind each medal they had won at the SEA games, how they spend 6 days a week training (note that they had school too and some were mugging for their O's). some for them even had to defer to O levels in order to achieve their dreams.
well, what we can see is that when an athlete stands on the podium to receive the medals, wat the spectators and audience see is only their competition performance. wat many people fail to realise is that their good results do not come easy. it's takes a hell lot of training to really stand out on the international arena. really.
i went back for training today with the nj trackers, thinking to regain some of the fitness that i had lost. to my horror, i didn't just lose 'some' fitness, but rather 'all' of them. i realise that my fitness could somewhat be compared to that of a primary school kid. seriously, i couldn't believe myself. my legs couldn't carry me forward fast enough, i couldn't lift my knee at all and my arm swing felt awkward. all in all my run was really wierd. and i almost cramped up, and also ended up with a splitting headache after the workout. a few months back, the workout which i did today would have been child's play. but today, it was an entirely different story.
it's really not easy to maintain one's fitness, let alone improve. looking back, when i was still in track, i've always thought my athletic capabilites came because i had some athletic gene or something. guess i was wrong. it was all that hard work that i had put in since sec1 when i started running. every workout from day1, every interval, every long run, every stride, every drill, everything. and now that i've stopped, i've lost everything, and now i'm back to me again when i was in sec1, the guy who ran 12:30 for his 2.4km
i want to get my fitness back... oh well.
